"THE STONE"
by Paul Greene
This is the story behind
"The Stone":
The Stone" is one of the first songs I ever wrote when I was 19 years old. I recorded it when I was 21 and played it for people as I toured the world and played it on subways. It grew over the years and became more refined. But the real sound of the stone took place when I met Sam Babayan, my producer, in the desert in Joshua Tree at a retreat. Then we got together in the studio and came up with the sound of my album Freedom For Your Soul. And the entire feeling of that album can be pretty much summed up in "The Stone". I wanted it to feel like you were lost in the desert but still hopeful...and on a visual cinematic journey through a very familiar story. Later, I got the chance to play this song live at Carnegie Hall, but you'll hear more about that later on.
