It's Friday I'm In Love: Reflecting on the Impact of Fatherhood, Colon Health & All My Tears

Happy Friday

Because it's Friday, I want to tell you about three things I really love this week. They're about something I was born to do, your most vital organ's health, and an awesome song from an album that is one of my all-time favorites.

1. Being a Dad

One of the Greatest Gifts

This is one of the greatest things in the greatest gifts in my life. There are days when it feels challenging. Especially the teenage years and learning how to listen and actually understand the hormonal impact, friends, and social media...wanting connection, but also trying to give needed space.

My oldest son, Oliver, turned 20 years old yesterday. And my youngest son is now about 20 months. It’s a pretty big gap, but the greatest thing that I’ve learned is presence and communication and how important it is to learn to listen and ask good questions. I feel like I was born to be a dad.

I am writing a book called 52 Ways to Be the Dad You Wish You Had. And I’m glad I’m waiting to finish because I’ve been learning so much in this last year, and I have so much more to discover.

These Are the Days by Cory Asbury

It’s amazing the incredible freedom that comes from being willing to communicate through some hard times.

So if you are avoiding talking to someone, Just give them a call and get it clear; it’s worth it. Freedom and power await.

2. Colon Health

Longevity's Secret

I was first introduced to colonics in New York City by my dear friend, Ariane de Bonvoisin. She has been responsible for introducing me to many many things in the health and well-being world. I have probably personally had close to 50 colonic experiences. I think they are very important in our modern world where we have all eaten plenty of processed food. Most of our colons are not absorbing nutrients the way our ancestors would have--not to mention how incredibly depleted our soil is of essential minerals and nutrients.

Somewhere along the way, I discovered this amazing little book that shares so much insight into not just the colon, but your entire system.

I also know a woman--India Holloway--I really trust and love here in Los Angeles. She also had a book called The Body Doesn’t Know How To Die. Highly recommend that book as well as the book: House.

All My Tears

From One of My Favorite Albums

Do you have a desert island album? An album that you would listen to you for the rest of your life if you had to because you only get one?

If you do, please share it in the comments below.

For me, that album is Wrecking Ball by Emmylou Harris, produced by Daniel Lanois. There’s a song on there called All My Tears.

Here are the lyrics:

When I go, don't cry for me

In my Father's arms I'll be

The wounds this world left on my soul

Will all be healed and I'll be whole

Sun and moon will be replaced with the light of Jesus' face

And I will not be ashamed for my Savior knows my name

It don't matter where you bury me

I'll be home and I'll be free

It don't matter, anywhere I lay

All my tears be washed away

Gold and silver blind the eye

Temporary riches lie

Come and eat from Heaven's store

Come and drink and thirst no more

So weep not for me, my friend, when my time below does end

For my life belongs to Him, who will raise the dead again

It don't matter where you bury me

I'll be home and I'll be free

It don't matter, anywhere I lay

All my tears be washed away

All my tears be washed away

I did a cover of it on my album, Freedom For Your Soul.

I have played the song at many Celebration of Life ceremonies, including my dad's. Every time I play the song or hear the song, I’m taken on the soul journey.

Have a listen to Emmylou Harris' album Wrecking Ball, and let me know what you think. I’m really proud of the version that we did. And I love the sound of Emmylou’s.

Let me know what you think.

I'd Love To Hear From You...
